Quality since 1906
MacCann & Byrne has seen many changes since 1906. From chemists to general store and auctioneers, to retail hardware merchants, to our present day operations. In business for more than a century, the company has sold everything from tea, tobacco and crockery, to fuel, feed and fertilisers. The company has been the vehicle of countless different entrepreneurial endeavours, from the importation of dried fruit to the manufacture of roof trusses. Today, we specialise in the highest quality machined timber, imported from Europe and Scandanavia. Our chief products, P.A.O, door frame and T&G flooring are milled on-site and are available in red deal, white deal and Douglas Fir. We also distribute a selection of other top-of-the-line building products from leading European manufacturers, including plywood, white cement, wheelbarrows, roofing felt and salt (PDV, food grade, water softening and de-icing), to mention but a few.
Innovations
MacCann & Byrne has been a fixture in Athboy town, Co. Meath for over one hundred years, but today, we trade with businesses all around the country. We are very proud of the exceptional quality of the products we offer, and we hope this website will allow our customers in all corners of the country to navigate our product range in just a few clicks.

This website represents a major technological advancement for our company. We are constantly working to maintain our reputation for providing excellent quality, not only in the products we offer but the service we provide customers. MacCann & Byrne is keen to embrace this type of waste-saving efficiency in all aspects of our business. We recently invested in new timber-working machinery and a state-of-the-art dust extraction system, also with an eye to modernising our manufacturing systems and ensuring the timber we mill remains of unparalleled quality.
Sustainability
We are enthusiastic about minimising our impact on the planet and with our new website up and running, we need no longer rely on printed brochures to communicate our product range. Working with timber, one of our most important natural resources, we have always been environmentally conscious and endorsed sustainable building practices. This environmental focus led to the foundation of our sister company, Ecological Building Systems in 2000.
MacCann & Byrne promotes sustainable forest management through FSC & PEFC certification. Moreover, we are also careful to ensure sustainability in our day-to-day operations. We strive to minimise waste, keeping our packaging minimal and are careful to reuse anything we can. Timber off-cuts, for example, are used to produce another of our most successful products, wood shavings, which are primarily used for animal bedding. Very little ever goes to waste here!
We are proud of our long history, but we are even prouder of what we have achieved with regard to the promotion of sustainability. We have been at the forefront of this movement in Ireland for decades and with the support of our wonderful staff and our loyal customer base, we hope to continue making advancements in this area for many more decades to come.
